Tujenge is a non-profit collective: We are artists, teachers, caretakers of children with diverse abilities, and community members. Our backgrounds are, among others, in research, project management, arts, education, social service, healthcare, and community empowerment. Our group started as a small circle of friends from Bagamoyo in Tanzania, Hamburg and Berlin in Germany, and Vancouver Island in Canada.
We work with projects in Tanzania that support people with diverse abilities. At the same time, we develop intercultural projects that connect people and ideas across continents. We aim to increase acceptance of diversely abled people, and support education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. We create spaces where people with and without disabilities connect through arts, culture, and community involvement. We focus on supporting local initiatives that are not sufficiently supported through other means. As our work continues to grow, so does our need to expand our partnerships for support and funding.
Utofauti wetu guvu yetu – our diversity is our strength. We have friends and supporters in Tanzania, Germany, and Canada with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and experiences. Respecting and valuing each other’s differences, we aim to build up long-term collaborations. We want to learn with and from each other and exchange ideas and personal experiences on what works and what doesn’t in terms of inclusion. This way, we strive to make inclusion more desirable and feasible everywhere. We embrace our diversity while encouraging transcultural collaboration, an inclusive society, and global solidarity.
