We are supporting urgent needs and accessibility to healthcare, education, and community activities for individual families with diversely abled children and teenagers struggling to find support elsewhere.
In Tanzania, there is little to no government support for families with children with disabilities. With over 13 million people still living in poverty, there is not much margin to pay for family meals, rent, clothing and medical bills – let alone for expensive therapies, medical aids, accessibility devices, costly medical procedures, or transport to far-off special schools. There is no universal healthcare and access to healthcare services for individuals with disabilities is very limited due to high costs of examinations, treatments, and transport to facilities.
We are impressed by the resourcefulness of parents dedicated to doing the best for their children under those difficult circumstances, and are happy to be able to support them where we can. We have been able to raise funds for school uniforms and clothes, school supplies, and hygiene articles for individual children in order for them to be able to attend school. With the help of individual supporters, we have been able to send children back to school by raising funds for school transport.
We have started funding health insurance, as well as medical examinations, medical and physiotherapy treatments, and equipment such as wheelchairs not covered by insurance plans, and have been contributing to nutrition for severely malnourished disabled children. We focus on assisting single mothers, low-income families, and highly vulnerable family situations – but we try to have an open ear for anyone interested in connecting and finding support!
We continue to keep connected with families to make sure children and youth of all abilities are ensured basic human rights such as education, healthcare, and community access. We are slowly building up a network of supporters that can help out flexibly, either continuously or whenever there is an urgent need.
