We try to be flexible by helping out when and where needed the most. Faudhia needed a wheelchair – and is excited to have just come back home to Bagamoyo with her first brand new wheelchair!
The 7-year old girl has a severe physical disability and can’t walk. It had been getting increasingly difficult for her mother to carry her to school, and for her to join into play with the other children, and to get around town. The family neither had the financial means to pay for a wheelchair, nor knew where to source one.
We were able to raise funds for medical examinations for the girl. We found a hospital in Tanzania’s commercial capital Dar es Salaam that had high-quality pediatric wheelchairs, and arranged for the family to travel there for an assessment and further consultations, as well as the purchase of the wheelchair. After two weeks, the family was able to pick up the new wheelchair. Faudhia is super excited and learned to use her wheelchair swiftly!
We are currently waiting for the arrival of new stock of wheelchairs at CCBRT hospital, and are subsequently hoping to raise funds for a couple of further physically disabled kids we know of in Bagamoyo who are in need of wheelchairs.
